These are great decorating tips. Painting and mirrors are two of the first things that we point out to people who are looking to sell their home. This is great material. I may use it to decorate my home. :-)

Great Tips! I use them in helping people get their homes in Kansas City ready to sell. These updating tips don't cost much, just a little time & investment. But so worthwhile!

I love Home Goods for this reason! They are affiliated with the TJ Maxx franchise and it's the perfect place to collect the finishing touches that make a house a home.

My husband says I spend too much money there, but he has no idea how much money I am really saving him ;)

Paint is the least expensive and best way to really spruce up a home, but do your homework. Painting gets very expensive, both in terms of money and time, if you have to redo a wall or room because the color on the paint chip didn't turn out the same on your walls.

After painting the interior walls of our first 2 houses with Home Depot paint, and being dissatisfied with the color not matching our expectations, we did some research and decided to paint our third house using Benjamin Moore paints (easy to find in Washington State). We used their top-of-the-line product, paid about 2.5 times per gallon what we paid previously, but, we only needed 1 coat - even for deep burgundy, which took 5 coats with the Home Depot paint. We got the color we expected, sure we paid 2.5 x more per gallon, but we used less than half the paint compared to the other brand - in the end, the cost was the same, time and frustration involved was significantly less, and the result was better!

I think most people tight on money buy too many smaller items, or knick knacks for decorating, when they really should consider saving up for a bigger item like quality furniture. More is not better, I really believe in quality not quantity.

Totally agree with paint being the cheapest way to decorate. I've been living with my chosen colors now over a year and I'm ready for a change. It really changes the feel of room. Since my budget is tight right now I'll have to delay getting some new furniture but paint I can handle. (I've also learned white walls is not a good choice for a house with 2 large dogs)

Great money saving ideas. I've used all of them in my home. Furniture covers is the best way to "not replace" furniture but yet have a new look. Changing curtains is another idea that will give a room a new look.

Great decorating tips. My wife and I added a mirror to our living room on a wall next to the fire place. It really did make the room larger. It also created a really "romantic" atmosphere. At night, we turn off the lights and start a fire. On date night, we sometimes move a card table into the living room and eat dinner there. We light some candles and all the light reflected off of the mirror around the room sets the perfect mood. Great way to save money on a date too!
